I'm playing an archtop these days, an Ibanez AF85, strung with .011--.053 acoustic strings. Great for rhythm, but bending's hell, so I'm looking for exercises to strengthen my left hand. Any ideas?

Always the best way to strengthen your hands is to play guitar and build strength slowly over time. Don't over-exert. You don't just want raw strength. You want supple, relaxed strength that promotes accuracy.
This is another good one:

You'll also eventually find the strings that suit you best. I go for heavier strings (12-56 on my electric), but one of my heroes, Frank Zappa, played pretty light strings (09-42, or something like that).
