I just joined and looked around for a few minutes. I have a couple questions. 1st off I am 26 years old and tried to play a guitar when I was like 14 and didn't have the internet or anyone around me to show me anything. I finally got the internet and there were tabs.. used those but still didn't understand much. well now that I am older and the internet seems to have lots of forums and youtube and all these sites that make it easier for me to understand stuff . I might give it a go. i've been really interested in guitar lately from playing that darn rockband and guitar hero games and I was thinking of getting a begginer guitar set up and trying top play the real thing. I know I prolly won't end up in a band or be all that great at it but still wanna try to learn some and play on my spare time even tho everyone i told says I am too old to learn and its too hard to play and all that and it just comes natural to some and not to others. anyways heres my questions I was looking at a complete setup with guitar and amp kit. I know these are cheap but its all I can afford right now. I can spend prolly under 300 for everything. whats the best to get out of these kits? a squier fender, th g-310 sg or the les paul II ??? I can get a pedal for these set ups to make effects sounds right? what pedal is good? I seen the digitech 50. any of these even worth it? help please!!!

If you want to stay around 300 look into the brand agile. The AL-2000 is on par (some say better) than the epiphone standard.
    www.rondomusic.com/al2000csb.html

roughly $200, then buy a roland microcube, you could pick one up used for around 80 or so and you'd begood to go, with a much better set up than either guitar pack listed below.

as far as age, I started when I was 28, and it is no problem picking it up, you just have to try.

thanks for the help. I been looking at the packs cause they were in my budget and what all the websites reccomeneded. the pedal I want has 19 effects and 11 amp models, Onboard drum machine with 30 different patterns, Includes power supply Studio-quality effects: Whammy, Wah, Chorus, Phaser, Tremolo,Rotary speaker, Delay, Reverb. its 50 bux. the fender and les paul both keep me under the $300 range even with this item included.

you'r gonna love it. That'll keep you busy for a while without the need to expand/upgrade in the near future.

ya man I can't wait . I get the guitar on wednesday. hope I get the amp then too, but my luck I won't haha. some people said I would need a setup ot adjustment before even playing. is this true? I hope its decent enough for now until I save up and take it in.

a setup wouldn't hurt. but see how it is first.

honestly unless the strings are buzzing, as a beginner you probably wouldn't notice much difference in a set up. (i'm sure many would disagree). unless the neck needs adjusted (better left to someone else since this is your first guitar) you could set up and intone your guitar yourself. usually it just adjusting the action, and the intonation (not hard just takes patience).

on second thought if it is your first guitar you might do better to take it to a pro. Best thing would be to change those strings as the stock strings tend to suck on all guitars. should be 30-50 (hopefully less) but your guitar will thank you.

also could someone show me some good strings for it? I need to buy some of those also. I have heard super slinkys are good but when I search um I don't see the sizes of the strings just suff like 2834 or 2239 or 2223??? what size are .10 -.46's or 9's or whatever?

get 10s or 9s if u wanna lead ( easier to bend ) the smaller the # the easier to bend : )

                    I disagree
Setup is vital for new beginning electric guitarists.
With the strings and neck "set" properly,it can make a world of difference in ease of playing.
*Most* Electric Guitars in the lower price bracket made in China or Korea are shipped from the factory with very cheap strings and "so-so" neck setup.
When I bought my 2007 Ephiphone Les Paul Classic(349:00 Made in China) the strings buzzed and the neck to string height was not set correctly. For fifty bucks I had a Pro re-string it with high quality strings, and re-set the entire neck. It made ALL the difference in how easy it is to play now and with no annoying "string buzz".
                    Setup Counts..especially for Beginner's!

Newbie (6months) to newvie--pay for the set-up and new string.I like DeAddarios and cleartones--I hate elixirs (i call them finger eaters) but some peeps love them--only kept them on the guitar about three weeks..love our spider III's,but we bought ourselves a Fender Frontman and floorpod for xmas :-)
