I have been playing mostly acoustic lately, so my main guitar at the moment is my 1978 Takamine EF375S.

But this is the ELECTRIC Guitar Forum, so my electrics are:

2003(?) Danelectro Hodad, Glitter Blue with Black "K" outline, kept in standard tuning

      1996 Rickenbacker 360/12, Natural (12 String)

1995 Fender Telecaster (Mexican), Alpine White with custom art (see photo in my profile) with JB Jr. Neck Pickup, kept in Nashville Tuning

1970s Conrad "Buttons", sunburst-- heavily customized (all new electronics including phase reversal and P-100 pickups, custom cut pickguard and a bunch of shirt buttons glued to headstock by previous owner so that no one would know it wasn't a Fender!)

1960s/70s? Mircro Frets Golden Melody, Sunburst, kept in Keith Richards' 5-string open G tuning

I also have basses and a mandolin and a ukulele, among other things.

Right now I've got three Stratocasters; all self-built.

        1. One piece maple neck, 7.25 radius, 6100 frets, alder 2-tone sunburst body, vintage hardware in gold, Fender Texas Special pickups.

        2. Maple cap neck, 9.5 radius, medium frets; quilted maple laminated mahogany body in deep amber. Hardtail bridge, Kluson tuners. Pickups: Seymour Duncan APS-2, Fender Deltatone, Squier ceramic.

        3. Maple cap neck, 9.5 radius, medium jumbo frets: flame maple laminated alder body, rear routed (no pickguard necessary) in amber. Fender vintage lefty trem, Gotoh tuners, endpin jack. Pickups: DiMarzio HS-3, Squier ceramic, Fender Gold Lace Sensor.

Dude, I love hearing about your guitars on all the tribes. I swear you are gonna make me break down and get a real strat one of these days instead of my Cort Copy. When you comin' the the bay area man?

Well, Adam, I just sold one of my Strats on eBay and the money's going in the travel fund. Looks like I may have to get some sorta short term temp gig to scrounge up what I'll need to make it out there...

I enjoy all styles of music, and always try and fit the guitar to the genre. Below are a few of my babies.

        Hard Rock-

Heritage H-150 Flame top. Similar to a Les Paul and constructed in the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo Michigan by the old employees

Epiphone SG flame top double-neck with 12 string and six string necks- a must for the ZEP tunes

        Blues-

ES-335 Knock-off, proabably made in the same factory in Korea that made the Epiphone...but the name is Sebring

Cort Stat 2 Strat knock-off- this guitar looks, sounds, and plays wonderful considering I payed under 200 dollars for it new- a real winner

        Classic rock

An old Harmony jaguar look alike with one odd pick-up. I purchased it at an antique shop in North Dakota, and it has a very unigue lead tone. Also good for making Rage Against the Machine sound effects.

        Delta Blues-

Old Martin Acoustic with rosewood back and sides

        All other acoustic music-

Larrivee D-03 Mahogany with a pick-up installed later. This acoustic is a really nice all solid wood piece, and even puts my Martin to shame!

Jazz- Old 1960s Gibson ES-125 with an awesome sounding P-90 pick-up

Heritage H-575- similar to a ES-175, but made out of solid wood instead of laminate. This is my favorite piece to date! The solid top gets better every year, and the electrified tone is perfect for jazz.

        Heavy Metal

24 fret Jackson King V with a blueburst flame top- a very fast guitar for shred music.

Cort Viva Gold 24 fret flame top blueburst with a Floyd Rose Super Strat style- made in same factory as Ibanez guitars

Cort 22 fret super strat with Kahler style tremolo- and oddity!

Currently, the people at heritage are custom making me a Super Eagle, which is similar to a Gibson Super 400. It will have a solid top and flamed back and side.

I love the guitar I am currently playing. I have Schecter Tempest 7, a 7 string with Mahogny Body and fixed bridge, it has a great low end and tight high end with little feed back and deffinetly holds a great tune. I love the action and weight of it, I've been playing it for years, and he has few cuts and scrapes, but then again, so do I. This guitar got me though alot, and will most likely get me through alot more.

I've never seen anybody with another Tempest 7, and I would like to get another, just black, this one is a beautifull blood red with a maple top.

I have two of the new Burns guitars, a red Bison (looks like a cross btw a strat & an SG) with the Wild Dog tone switch and a Greenburst Marquee with Sperzels. The Marquee is basically a strat-type with a push/pull on the tone pot that gives you more settings, like all 3 p/u's, out-of-phase, etc. Those are both fairly new...the one I've played the longest is my beloved beat-to-hell black G&L ASAT Classic, again mostly stock but w/Sperzels, which if you can't tell I'm a big fan of.

An Aria P.O.S. from the early 80's that has been "Frankensteined" into a VG-88/synth controller

An Oahu laptop slide that I got in exchange for a few lessons

And an old (pre '67) Lyle acoustic that my mom gave me when I was 10 (I'm 37 now).

I've owned: Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat, Carvin TL-60, Ibanez Artist, Epiphone Sheraton II, and a no-name nylon that played pretty nice.

i have an Epihone Les Paul Elite

it's ebony, semi-hollow, with gold hardware... i had a gold pickguard and a gold bigsby vibrato with tailpiece installed... it's a very pretty instrument but not ideally suited for my fingers... it also has a problem with non-musical monotonous feedback squeal from the bridge pickup when amplifier volume is moderate or above.

    img.photobucket.com/albums/1...d039d.jpg

i used to have a Guild Brian May Signature guitar, what a wonderful instrument that was.. really versatile, sounded lovely, and VERY comfortable for my fingers (nice wide, shallow neck, 2 octave range, knife-edge vibrato)... but i had to sell it to pay bills about 5 years ago... i miss it very much

      Sat, September 25, 2004 - 9:14 AM
Cool looking guitar, Dire. I've never seen a semi-hollow Les Paul.

Hey, try swapping the offending pickup with a Seymour Duncan PAF or something like that. Make sure it's dipped in beeswax or similarly shielded. I suspect the Epi that you have was made in Korea and might have cheapie pickups, contributing to the squeal. Some people also stuff their semi-hollows with rags to ameliorate the squealage.

ah thanks for the advice! i was wondering if maybe placing an adhesive rubber pad backing to the back of the pick guard might help. but perhaps a replacement pickup would be a better idea.

my main guitar lately is a Danelectro double-neck.i installed a Bigsby on the lower neck, and converted the upper to 6-string bass.also have a Gibson L-6 DeLuxe with a Bigsby which is currently being modified for another P-90 (this time for the neck) also a Johnson acoustic/electric resonator which is usually in open G tuning, and a Guya Tone that my friend bought for $10 at a flea market, then gave to me so i would quit bugging him.

1962 Gibson Les Paul "Junior" - the original SG. This guitar has so much soul, it truly is alive! It was owned by a small handfull of talented artists before I bought it about 15 years ago. I feel that I inherited a very special instrument - one that will live forever. Songs seem to just write themselves on this axe! (No, I didn't sell my soul to the devil - haha!)

I also own severial other much newer, state-of-the-art, well crafted guitars, but my '62 is the love of my Life!

  • Re: What's your guitar?

I'm kind of a guitar slut. It's probably because I'm left handed, so there's a knee-jerk reaction to collect. I've started building my own guitars as well, because I've always wanted some instruments that I cannot afford or are not available left handed. My guitars are:

1 Korina Flying V - This is my latest creation and now my primary gigging instrument.

2 Mango Mockingbird - Heavily curled mango and cocobolo woods in an instrument that plays better than the more recent BC Rich guitars.

    3 1981 Gibson V

    4 1979 Gibson SG

5 Maple and Mahogany single cutaway guitar resembling a Les Paul with Stratocaster hardware - the 4th guitar I built.

    6 Ibanez Dreadnought

    7 Washburn acoustic electric

    8 Ibanez lawsuit-era double neck

Epiphone sold a $99 wonder- their Les Paul Junior w/ humbucker- you get a couple of highly usuable sounds just by backing down the tone knob. Easy to find one used. Perfect for Motorhead, bar-band punk noise.
Epiphone also made (c.2000) a more trad. LP Junior: bolt-on neck, P-90, 'burst~ took me six years to find another. Stupendous axe.
Danelectro Longhorn bass, Korean remake (c.1998). 2 octave neck, lightweight, concentric stacked pots for several superior tone combos.

      Cheapos, all.
